Christmas cookies and happy hearts, this is how the holiday starts.
Christmas is coming, and in my house that means so is a veritable treasure trove of delectable sweets. Everyone has their holiday cookie traditions and my family has more than a few. I hope to share as many as possible in the coming weeks.
To kick off the Christmas baking last week, I whipped up a batch of cream cheese bar cookies. Though not the most exciting or eye-popping, ’tis a tasty recipe we’ve used for years.
Just see for yourself.
Cream Cheese Bars
- About 3 oz. cream cheese
- 1 C margarine
- 1 C brown sugar
- 1 Egg yolk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 C flour
- 1 12 oz. bag chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350.
Cream together the cream cheese, margarine, and brown sugar. Add the egg and vanilla. Mix in flour.
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove and sprinkle with the chocolate chips while still warm. When the chips are nice and melty (you can pop the cookie sheet back in the oven for a minute or two to help the process along) spread evenly over the cookies.
If desired, you may sprinkle with festive sprinkles while the chocolate is still soft. Once hardened, cut cookies into bars.
